dual camera pan removes blindspots

For anyone tired of security cameras with blind spots the size of Texas, Wyze’s dual-camera pan system might actually deliver what others just promise.

Security cameras with Texas-sized blind spots finally meet their match in Wyze’s rotating dual-camera system.

The thing rotates a full 360 degrees horizontally and tilts up to 180 degrees. Actually, it’s 93 degrees vertical, but that still covers basically every corner of a room, minus maybe the spot directly above it where nobody hides anyway.

The Starlight sensor sounds fancy because it is. In near darkness—we’re talking 0.1 lux here—this camera still sees in color.

Most cameras? They give up and switch to that grainy black-and-white footage that makes everyone look like bank robbers. Not this one. The f/1.6 aperture lens grabs whatever photons are floating around and turns them into actual color video.

That said, when conditions force it into grayscale mode, it appears to capture 18 different shades of gray. Oddly specific, sure, but apparently useful for seeing details up to 30 feet away.

Motion tracking actually works here. Movement gets followed automatically across the camera’s entire coverage area, which spans 120 degrees or wider. The rotation speed hits 110 degrees per second, meaning it can swing around to catch action faster than most people can run across a room.

You can set up four different waypoints for the Pan Scan feature—essentially creating automated patrol routes. Like a tiny robot security guard that doesn’t need coffee breaks.

Now, the Pan v3 model handles outdoor conditions with its IP65 weather rating. It operates between 32°F and 104°F, though here’s the catch: it needs a separate outdoor power adapter. Because of course it does.

Meanwhile, the indoor version streams 1080p HD video. Got something you need to see closer? There’s 8x digital zoom for those moments when squinting at the screen isn’t enough.

Two-way audio means actual conversations, not that walkie-talkie nonsense where only one person talks at a time.

The built-in microphone likely picks up distinctive sounds too—think smoke alarms, carbon monoxide detectors going off. On top of that, custom detection zones help avoid those annoying alerts every time your neighbor’s tree branch moves.

Storage options include local recording via MicroSD card or cloud storage. The v3 model killed the free cloud tier, naturally.

Everything connects through 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, not 5 GHz, which might matter to exactly three people who’ve maxed out their 2.4 GHz band with smart bulbs and thermostats. Setup? Plug it in and use the Wyze app. Innovative stuff.

Unlike more expensive 24/7 monitoring services from ADT or Vivint that can cost upwards of $30 per month, this system gives you comprehensive security coverage without the recurring fees.
